Style Series: The Decorium.

There’s nothing we love more than championing independent businesses here at Style Stories - it’s in our DNA. The entrepreneurial spirit embedded in the West Midlands is the jewel in our crown, and we’re a creative bunch too. Our Style Series is centred around fashion entrepreneurs and their businesses.

The Decorium, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton.

Nestled into the heart of Tettenhall village, The Decorium opened its doors in May 2021 and houses a curated selection of womenswear in addition to a kids and home edit. Inspired by European street style and resort culture, owner, and co-founder of Style Stories Lucy chats all things Spring Summer and local hot spots.

I was inspired to start my own business when…. I left university. I was lucky enough to undertake some fantastic internships at both small and large businesses and felt so inspired by the inner workings of them that I knew one day I’d absolutely have to take the leap myself and create something of my own. I spent the next decade working and constantly learning and immersing myself in fashion businesses and finally took the leap of moving to Wolverhampton with my husband and launching my own store.

The best part of owning an independent is…. The people. I have met so many fantastic humans as part of being in the store day to day - who have also been such a huge inspiration behind setting up Style Stories! Getting that first hand interaction is something we really missed during lockdown, so I think if we can weather this year in retail, it will be a new and positive dawn for bricks and mortar independents.

Our 2023 plans are…. Celebrating our first birthday! I can’t believe it’s been almost a year in Tettenhall already. We have some big plans to celebrate in store on 13th May, which is also the same day as the village’s famous food and artisan market so it’s set to be a fantastic weekend in Tettenhall. We also have some stellar new brands launching, including two Parisian brands Grace & Mila and FRNCH. They will be accompanied by LUNA LLENA, a phenomenal resort wear brand based out of Barcelona. I’m so honoured they wanted to be part of our fashion family here at The Decorium and think our customers are going to love what we have chosen!

My local coffee spot is… Cataldos Italian in Tettenhall for a takeaway oat milk flat white and a croissant before opening up the store. If I’m in Wolverhampton city centre it has to be Medicine where I usually can’t resist stopping for a jalapeno corn bread too!

My trend predictions of Spring/Summer ‘23 are…. whatever makes you feel good! Let’s face it - we’ve gone through some turbulent times over the last year and sometimes it can be hard to escape the moody undertones a lot of media brings. This season we are filling our store with uplifting pieces designed to bring joy but also designed to be worn and absolutely cherished. Cheerful colours and artisanal finishes are peppered throughout our collections with an undeniable ‘resort wear’ feel. You know those super chic boutiques you typically only find in Ibiza Old Town or the cobbled streets of Sitges? Our aim is to bring that European flair to the West Midlands - and we think we’ve succeeded with what we have coming - I can’t wait!
